People Management - better management for better practice Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) logo

Welcome to the People Management website

The social care sector has always suffered from recruitment difficulties, high staff turnover and high levels of absence due to stress. As part of its role in promoting good practice in social care, the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) is concerned with improving human resource practice throughout the sector. It has commissioned this website to enable social care providers to review and improve their human resource (or people management) policies and practice.

The website is based on the premise that good people management will improve recruitment and retention, which will in turn lead to improved services for service users. It is especially designed for smaller social care providers, who may not have access to specialist personnel or human resource advice.

The People Management website follows the journey an employee takes from recruitment to the end of employment and consists of a number of audits to allow you to assess your organisation's performance at every stage. Once you have completed a questionnaire, you will be given a score and an assessment and be directed to relevant resources to help you improve your practice in that area.

The audits are designed from an employer's perspective, but they may also be useful for team members, staff representatives, carers or service users.

At the end of your first audit you can register with this website. This will allow you to save your completed audits and, over time, you can review your progress. By joining this site you will be sent regular updates about SCIE's people management work including any new resources or events. The network will also be able to put you in contact with other members and will encourage you to share ideas, problems and examples of good practice.

SCIE is developing a People Management Network which aims to support organisations in improving their people management policies and practice.
