Basic Skills Assessment Method

Social care providers have found that many front line staff are likely to have some basic skills needs.  This is an important theme for Learning and Skills Councils and funding is often available to support employers in addressing those needs.  However, sensitivity is needed in being able to assess basic skills needs and the The Department for Children, Schools and Families is working on tools which will make the process easier and more reliable.

The Assessment Tools website provides revised trial versions of the literacy and numeracy skills check (formerly known as 'screening') and initial assessment tools are now available to download from this site and to order as hard copies.
